'The Sign of Four'
The Sign of Four
Design
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Book cover for the Sherlock Holmes story, The Sign of Four by Arthur Conan Doyle; collaboration with photographers
SOLUTION
Cover elements are taken directly from this Sherlock Holmes story: the six pearls, the primitive dart, the marked map, and the woman. Going through the novel, the reader would find the relevance of these items scattered throughout the plot. Although just looking at the items on the cover will not reveal what the plot is about, they should create enough intrigue to the viewer to how they are connected. The typefaces are chosen to invoke: typewriter for the mystery genre and a scrawly handwritten script for Victorian England during which the story takes place.
