PROJECT DESCRIPTION

My concept for a branding and visual language system for the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Olympic Games, “Create a Legacy”

NOTE: This is not official work for LA 2028 (…yet)

SOLUTION

This was my senior project at Otis College of Art and Design. It was created with the intention to submit for consideration for actual use for LA 2028.

As a native Angeleno, I was excited when Los Angeles first began its bid for hosting the 2024 Summer Games. (Paris was eventually granted the 2024 Games and L.A. given the subsequent 2028 Games.) Inspired by my own personal history with the Olympics, I started casually sketching graphic concepts for an LA Olympic Games in 2017.

Later in 2018 when I had to consider what I was going to do for my senior project at Otis, I strongly knew developing my concept for the 2028 Games was what I wanted to do. This project would challenge me. Usually one to focus too much on the details, this project would force me to consider the larger picture of the project as a whole as I worked on individual elements. It also covered a wide breath of components and applications.

Months before my peers began their own projects, I started on mine beginning with the intensive research that would also be a part of my senior thesis, “Creating a Sustainable Legacy.” I also developed the core components of the branding: the emblem, color scheme, and typography. From there, I expanded upon those core components to develop the other elements of the branding and visual language. Though this was a daunting task for a team of one, I never wavered in my dedication. Even long after graduation, I am still dedicated to working on this project, further expanding and refining it.
